24, 2001: Michael's "United We Stand" Performance
!!!
On
Sunday, October 21, 2001, Michael took over
the stage again, performing "Man In
The Mirror" and "What More
Can I Give". Read what AP
had to say about the charity concert:
Tens of thousands of music fans gathered
in the capital Sunday to see Michael Jackson,
'N Sync, Aerosmith and an array of other pop
stars at a marathon concert to celebrate America
and raise money for victims of September's terrorist
attacks.
"United We Stand: What More Can I Give?"
raised about $ 2 million through the
sale of more than 46'000 tickets. It was one
of three benefit concerts over the weekend.
The Backstreet Boys sang the national anthem
to kick off the sold-out show at RFK Stadium.
"We can't let them defeat us,"
said band member Kevin Richardson. "We
have to get up, get out and live our lives every
day."
The concert ended with
a grand finale early Monday, more than
11 hours after it began.
Under
a spray of red, white and blue confetti, Jackson - joined
onstage by the other artists - sang his new song written for
the attack victims, "What More Can I Give?".
To the families of the victims, Jackson said, "You
are not alone. You are in our hearts, in our thoughts and
in our prayers."
In Washington James Brown took the stage dressed in a gold
suit. He segued from his classic "Sex Machine" to
"God Bless America." The audience sang along to
the latter and waved small American flags. The crowd - which
had been on its feet for almost the entire concert - sat down
at one point at the request of Bette Midler. "I want
to sing you a song not of sorrow but of hope," Midler
said before her ballad, "The Rose". The crowd obliged,
but was on its feet again when she finished.
Among the other performers were Mariah Carey, Bette Midler
and Destiny's Child.
Parts of the concert will be televised in a two-hour special
on ABC Nov. 1.
Security was tight outside RFK, with long lines forming as
police searched concertgoers - many clad in red, white and
blue - with handheld metal detectors.
Proceeds from the Washington concert will go to the American
Red Cross Liberty Fund, the Salvation Army Relief Fund, the
Pentagon Relief Fund and the Rewards for Justice Fund.
The
following has been taken from Reuters/Variety
- October 18, 2001:
ABC plans to televise a two-hour version
of this Sunday's "United We Stand - What More
Can I Give?" - an all-day concert at Washington,
D.C.'s RFK Stadium benefiting victims of the Sept. 11
attacks.
The network sealed a deal with event producer Clear
Channel Entertainment to air the special on Nov.
1 at 8 p.m., the first day of November sweeps. John
Stamos will host.
The concert will feature performances by such acts as
Backstreet Boys, Aerosmith, Bette Midler, 'N Sync, Destiny's
Child and Mariah Carey.
An all-star finale will include Michael Jackson,
who will perform his new song "What More Can
I Give?"with other artists in attendance.
Clear Channel plans to donate proceeds from the concert
to the American Red Cross Liberty Relief Fund, the Salvation
Army Relief Fund and the Pentagon Relief Fund.
Separately, VH1 plans to air another benefit event,

18, 2001: Michael In "Men In Black" Sequel
!!!
The
following excerpt has been taken from Reuters/Variety
- October 18, 2001:
Will Smith isn't the only cast member of "Men
In Black 2" with platinum-selling records on
his shelf.
Michael Jackson has quietly joined the cast
of Sony's sci-fi sequel, playing a small role
- apparently, not an alien.
"We shot a small scene with Michael on Tuesday,''
said helmer Barry Sonnenfeld. "He was charming,
funny and really cool to work with.''
Oct.
18, 2001: Michael Has Finished Recording "What
More Can I Give"
The
following has been reported by
Rolling Stone - October 18, 2001:
Michael Jackson has finished recording "What
More Can I Give", his new star-studded single
that he hopes will raise more than $ 50 millionfor families of victims of the September 11th terrorist
attacks.
Since the tragedy, Jackson has been crisscrossing
the country to collaborate with Ricky
Martin, Santana, Mariah Carey, Celine
Dion, Tom Petty, Destiny's Child's Beyonce
Knowles, the Backstreet Boy's Nick Carter,
Aaron Carter, Shakira, Mya, Ziggy
Marley and others.
"A song is a mantra, something you repeat over and
over,"Jackson told Rolling Stone. "And
we need peace, we need giving, we need love, we need
unity. I want the whole world to sing this song."
Jay-Z and Michael Jackson won't stop 'til they
get enough [remixes]
Since Jigga rhymed on a hip-hop version
of the Gloved One's single "You Rock My World",
Jackson plans to return the favor by
singing the hook on a "Girls, Girls, Girls"
remix.
"My mom likes it because she gets to see how successful
her son is. 'You're working with Michael Jackson,
you must be all right; you must be pretty good,' " Jay-Z said while lounging in a Beverly Hills
hotel suite Saturday.
He had just returned from working on the track at
a nearby studio. The "Girls, Girls, Girls" remix,
produced by Kanye West, will be released around
Christmas, Jay said.
The Jay-Z/Jackson alliance became public when the
rapper brought M.J. onstage during a Long Island,
New York, festival concert last summer [see news archive].
"Izzo [H.O.V.A.]", the first single from Jay-Z's
recent "The Blueprint", samples the Jackson
5's "I Want You Back".
Jay said he and Jackson haven't discussed shooting
videos together but said he's open to the possibility.
"I'm working on my dance moves, so we'll see. No,
I'm joking - no dancing. I have rhythm, but I'm cool
to leave that to Mike."
The
following transcript has been edited by BootyLishuzMJ
for KOP;
additional information by MJNI.
Michael called the "Oprah" show today, 15th
October, tosay hello to his friend
Quincy Jones, who was on the program to promote
his autobiography "Q". Michael spoke for
about two minutes and said he was "honored"
to call in and talk about Quincy.
MJ: What was it like working with Quincy?
Oprah: Yeah.
MJ: He's very professional, very talented, and he's
a musical visionary. He's been around ahh, as you
know, haha, a very long time. [Quincy gives a funny
look. Audience and Oprah laugh.]
Quincy: Michael?
MJ: Yes?
Quincy: This is Quincy. Can I call you by the name
we used to talk to each other by?
MJ: Yes, if you want. [giggles]
Quincy: Uh huh. Okay Sm..
MJ: I'm scared. [audience laughs]
Quincy: Smelly..[to Oprah] What did he say?
Oprah: He said "I'm scared." [more laughter]
Now where did..?
Quincy: That's very affectionate because Michael does
not use profanity..ever. Right, right Smelly?
MJ: N..no no.
Quincy: And so when it got good, we say "That stunk,"
and he said "Don't say that, it's smelly jelly,"
you know? [audience laughs] It's smelly jelly, so
from then..
Oprah: You don't even use funky?
Quincy: Michael doesn't say that word.
Oprah: No, no. Doesn't say any kind of bad words at
all?
Quincy: I've heard a couple, yeah.
MJ: From who?
Quincy: Haha.. from you!
MJ: Not me, is it?
Quincy: Oh no, no. Just smelly jelly.
Oprah: No, so that's why you started calling him Smelly.
What have you learned from Q that you take with you
for the rest of your life, Michael?
MJ: I learned a lot. You once said something to me,
Quincy. I don't know if you want it repeated but it
was just.. just beautiful. You said um..You don't
write music. You let the write.. the music write itself.
Let it create itself. It's like we're just the source
from which it comes.
Oprah: Yeah. I've heard him say he always leaves room
for God to walk in the room.
MJ: There you go.
Quincy: The divinity is most important.
Oprah: Well, thank you Michael for joining us. Thanks
for taking the time to call up and say "Hey Q!"
MJ: haha
Quincy: I love you, Smelly.
MJ: I love you more, Quincy.
Quincy: Your show was great in New York.
MJ: Thank you.

13, 2001: Michael Appears In "Space Channel 5 -
Part II" Game
The
following has been reported by ign
ps2 - [Oct. 12, 2001]:
Michael Jackson Appears in Space Channel 5 Sequel
The king of pop [yes, he's still the king of pop]
seems to have a bigger role this time.
Fans of the original Space Channel 5 will be
pleased with this bit of info. One of the most
pleasant surprises in the game was the appearance
of Michael Jackson in the role of Space Michael
Jackson.
The king of pop lent his voice to the game
as part of a grand buildup towards one of gaming's
most inspired ending sequences, and the result likely
brought a smile to any who played through the game.
We can report that MJ is back for the sequel to
Space Channel 5, Space Channel 5 Part 2.
The trailer shown at Tokyo Game Show, a portion of
which we posted yesterday as part of our Pre-TGS coverage,
reveals the king of pop strutting his stuff in support
of main character Ulala.
Jackson appears in more than one scene, making
us believe that he may have a bigger role this time
around. Stay tuned for the full trailer from the game,
which packs so much energy and variety that the original
looks tame in comparison.

10, 2001: CBS To Air MSG Tribute In November...
The following has been taken from MJNI
[Oct. 09, 2001]:
TV Guide Preps Five Different MJ Collectible Covers
According to today's Hollywood Reporter, CBS
is planning to air Michael's MSG Tribute concert
on Tuesday, November 13th.
The show will last two hours [three hours
for European airings] and will consist mostly
of footage from the October 10th show, including
61 minutes of the King of Pop on stage.
The Reporter also wrote that the final cut was
sneaked last week by its producer David Gest
to several industry execs as well as folks over at TV
Guide, the latter of which is planning to give
Michael five different cover images during the week
of the show's airing.
Gest also gave a sneak screening at the Sony studios
in Manhattan for several of the powerhouse talents in
the show, including Liza Minnelli, Whitney Houston [there
with hubby Bobby Brown], Usher, Deborah Cox, Monica,
Mya and the 98 Degrees foursome.
"The show moves at such a rapid pace that by the
time it finishes, you wish it had lasted a few hours
more," said Liza about the final cut.
As TV Guide's Jennifer Graham tells the Reporter: "It
seem like every big-name pop star in the industry is
on the stage at one point or another. ... But by far
the highlight is seeing Michael emerge,
join the Jackson 5 and then do some of his
solo material. He looks and sounds as good as
he ever did."
Many are predicting that this can be CBS'
ratings topper for the year.

The following has been taken from Planet Jackson:
This week, Sony Music is servicing TV stations around
the world with 3 new versions of Michael Jackson's
"You Rock My World" short-film. Each new version
has been personally re-edited by Michael Jackson, including

been broadcast worldwide up to now.
From now on, the 3 new versions of the video
will replace the ones that have been seen internationally
until today.
The new revised versions of the "You Rock My World"
short-film are:
